Police in Raleigh are investigating a shooting involving one of their own.

The incident happened Thursday at a mobile home park on Garner Road. Police said two officers were dispatched to the area after a report of gunshots being fired.

Officers J. K. Jennings and M. J. Jackson heard additional shots being fired and moved toward the sound and said they observed two Hispanic men who were behaving suspiciously. As the officers approached, the two men began to run in different directions, according to police.

Police said one of the men, identified as Antonio Gomez, 21, stuffed something in his waistband that the officers believed to be a weapon. While running away, Gomez slipped and fell to the ground in a sitting position, dropping a gun on the ground at his feet.

Gomez was given commands to remain still and not touch the weapon. Instead, the officers said he reached for the gun pointing it at one of them.

Jennings fired two rounds at the suspect, causing the weapon to fall to the ground, police said.

Gomez was then taken into custody. He is in the Wake County jail charged with felony assault on a government official and discharging a firearm in the city limits.

Police are still searching for a second suspect.
