Raleigh Leaders Vote To Scrap Plan For Highway Extension Near Cemetery

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Members of the Raleigh City Council voted to scrap a plan that would have cut through a corner of a Raleigh cemetery and disturb graves.

Dozens of Raleigh residents came to City Hall Tuesday to voice their concerns over a extension for Lynn Road which would tear through Raleigh Memorial Gardens. After hearing from residents, they decided to vote down the plan.

Tuesday's vote is only the first step in killing the project, but family members who have relatives buried at the site said it is a step in the right direction.

The project will have to go before a zoning hearing before it can be completely pulled from the city's plans.
