Meg Scott Phipps has faced fines for campaign finance violations and a federal investigation, but since the State Fair, she has enjoyed some vindication. Phipps was criticized by officials when she broke tradition and hired another vendor, Amusements of America, to run the midway at the fair.
The Board of Agriculture backed up Monday what many fairgoers had to say. The board praised the way this year's fair was organized and operated. As a result, Phipps tells WRAL that she will stick with what worked.
"I know I'm going to go ahead and sign with Amusements of America for next year, for this coming fair. With all the comments that we did receive, it would be sort of silly to try to change that for this coming year," she said.
Phipps said she plans to sign off on the contract by the end of the week. She said she wants to concentrate on more important matters, like helping the state's farmers.
