Group Has Faith Durham Students Can Close Achievement Gap

The group, called "Clergy Closing the Achievement Gap," supportsSuperintendent Ann Denlinger's plan to raise achievement levels among all students.

The group said its goal is to wipe out the gap by the 2006-07 school year. Members vow to be active participants in the school system.

"We believe in those who are leading our schools. We are trusting that we are heading in the right direction. We, as faith communities will, in fact, do what we can to make that happen," said the Rev. Carl Kenney, of Compassion Ministries.

The group is inviting leaders from all faiths to a training session next month to learn how to get involved.
