State, County Bans Admissions To Three Durham Rest Homes

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — State and Durham County inspectors have banned admissions to three rest homes owned by a Burlington businessman.

The state shut down Durham Manor last week; Hanson Hills could have its license revoked and Durham Village faces tight restrictions.

The homes, owned by Faiger Blackwell, became the focus of increased state and county scrutiny after the June 13 death of Ervin Evans Jr.

Evans was found dead in a ditch four miles from his assisted living home. Investigators believe he died while trying to walk home alone from a doctor's appointment.
