Interim Durham Police Chief Out Of Running For Permanent Position

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham interim Police Chief Steve Chalmers is out of the race to become the permanent chief.

City Manager Marcia Conner said the decision was made Friday after learning about a domestic incident between Chalmers and his ex-wife back in the 1980s. Chalmers has been the interim chief since January.

Bill Carcara of Kentucky and Greg Watkins from Kansas City, Mo. are still in the running for the position.

Conner says she plans to make a final decision on Monday.
