RALEIGH. N.C. — A young woman accused of murdering her newborn baby is at a Raleigh mental hospital.
Two weeks ago, police said Sophia Whitley, 19, gave birth to a baby boy, wrapped him in a garbage bag and put the infant in her trunk.
Whitley, who was being held in the Harnett County jail, was charged with felony child abuse and first-degree murder.
Authorities said Whitley was moved to Dorothea Dix hospital for evaluation and counseling.
