Clayton Residents Call For Changes Along Dangerous Stretch Of Road

On Friday, 16-year-old Adam Peters died when he missed a curve and smashed his brother's car into a fence along Winston Road.

The Highway Patrol said alcohol did not play a part in the accident, but speed was definitely a factor.

"It's very dangerous. They fly down here, they run 60 to 70 miles an hour and even more sometimes," said neighbor Paul Hebert.

Susan Green lives near Winston Road, where she said there have been five deadly accidents over the past 13 years.

"When I first moved here I would walk on the road with my dog. I won't walk on this road at all at this point in time because they fly at you," she said.

People who live off Winston Road say something must be done, whether it is lowering the 55 mph speed limit or an increased presence by law enforcement.

The Highway Patrol said a trooper was patroling the area just 1 hour before the crash, but emphasized that the trooper cannot be everywhere all the time.
