Durham Shooting Leaves 1 Dead

DURHAM — Police are looking for a gunman who shot two people outside a convenience store on Hillsborough Road.

James Maurice Conyers, 21, of 51-B Ridgeway Avenue was pronounced dead atthe scene.

Police say the driver, 27-year-old Maccos McDonald, was shot in the stomach and leg. He was in stable condition at Duke Hospital late Tuesday morning. James Maurice Conyers, 21, had been sitting in the front passenger seat, and was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the victims were shot while inside a red car around 4 a.m. at the BP just off 15-501.

Two other passengers in the car were inside the convenience store when the shooting occurred, and no one inside the store was hurt.

They believe the driver of the car knew the gunman, and that robbery was not the motive.

Witnesses say the suspect was seen hanging around the store immediately before the shooting.

The suspect is described as a dark-skinned male with close-cut hair, about 6 ft., 220 lbs., wearing a black T-shirt and blue or black denim pants. He was last seen running from the scene.
