FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police are investigating an attack on an elderly woman.
Police said a man broke into a home on Village Drive at 5:30 a.m. Thursday and raped an 80-year-old woman.
"She was asleep. It was still the early morning hours and was awoken to the suspect in her room," said Lt. Katherine Bryant of the Fayetteville Police Department.
Police said the suspect did not have a weapon, and it did not look like the suspect took anything from the house.
The assault has people who live in the neighborhood a bit uneasy. Resident Alice Franklin said she is worried the man will try again.
"I'm very upset about it. I wouldn't want anyone to do that again in the neighborhood," she said.
Police said the woman was not able to get a good description of the man. The woman was treated at the hospital and released.
