No Relief From Heat In Sight For Meredith College Students

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — There is not any relief from the heat in sight for students at Meredith College.

The entire campus is without air conditioning this week while crews install a new chiller, a device that brings cold air into all the buildings. Officials said they did a lot of research to find out what time of year would be best for the work, but Mother Nature surprised them.

"They planned this very meticulously to have a time when it would be the least discomfort for the students and lo and behold, it turned 90 degrees this week," said Heidi LeCount, director of Residence Life.

Officials have opened up the campus chapel, which is air conditioned, for students to either sleep or study. Professors are also having some classes outside and propping doors open during the day.

Crews are also working around the clock and hope to have the air conditioning running again by Friday.
