Orange County Residents Upset About Rock Quarry

print friendly

Dozens of Orange County residents turned out to voice their opinions about a local rock quarry Sunday.

Many of the residents said they wonder if blasting at the American Stone rock quarry outside Carrboro is affecting the quality of their drinking water.

Now that American Stone wants to expand, residents met with county health officials to get their concerns on the record.

American Stone has offered to start a fund to pay for problems people might have with their well water. But under the program, the quarry and not the county gets to decide if any water problems are related to blasting.

No one from the company attended the meeting.
