Jevon Ward To Undergo Mental Evaluation

Posted Updated

CARY, N.C. — Jevon Ward will have a mental evaluation to figure out if he is competent to stand trial for beating a Cary police officer.

Ward led police on a high-speed chase back in January. He eventually hit a house and was captured by authorities. He was also the last person seen with Amanda Simpson-Deane.

Deane's body was found in a Nash County well last month. Investigators have not charged anyone with the murder, but say Ward is a material witness.

His attorney may argue that Ward was insane when he fought with the officer and ran from police.
