FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County has 25,000 mobile homes -- more than any other county in the state. Leaders have created a new new task force to impose stricter standards on their appearance.
Some of the recommendations include the skirting that goes around manufactured homes, landscaping and minimum housing standards.Other changes include branding mobile homes as real estate and raising inspection fees.
The county hopes that improving the appearance of mobile homes will have a positive effect on its image.
The task force said that the whole idea behind the new recommendations is to get manufactured homes to appreciate in value so the county's tax base will increase.
The new rules would only apply to those mobile homes moving into the county.
