NEW HOPE, N.C. — A Franklin County family wants authorities to investigate the death of their son.
Josh Woodruff, 22, was riding an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) with friends Saturday when he hit a cable that blocks a private dirt road. Woodruff died at the hospital from his injuries.
Woodruff's friends said the path had never been blocked off before and that the cable was not well marked.
The landowner, Ted Arnold, said Woodruff and his friends did not have permission to be on the land, and that the site was properly marked.
Arnold said four-wheelers that ride on his land without permission sometimes damage the land, so he put up the cable with a yellow sign and flags. He said he is heartbroken over the accident.
The Franklin County Sheriff said permission is needed to ride an ATV on someone else's land.
