Duke Students Meet With Campus Officials Over Safety Concerns

Students said that three recent attacks on campus have undermined their sense of security.

Duke's student government organized the meeting between students and administrators.

The school has already increased police patrols and is working to improve lighting. A safety consultant has been hired to create a long-term security plan for the university.

"What's going to prevent another terrible tragedy from happening next week? I hope they take to heart what student concerns are at this moment in addition to what they're doing to improve safety concerns this year and in years to come," student Laura Baird said.

Students were pleased with the meeting, but said that the real success will be measured in how the university translates their ideas for better security into actions.

Duke administrators said they intend to send a letter to parents and students outlining their plans for improved security on campus.
