Rogers Road To Feature State-Of-The-Art Railroad Crossing

Rogers Road in Wake Forset features a state-of-the-art railroad crossing, but not everyone is happy about it.

"I don't like it at all. I'm a little tired of them messing with our right of way through the town. We actually need both crossings to make it viable. This is the same thinking that gave us Falls of Neuse Road -- one bridge, two lanes, lots of traffic," said motorist Diana LeBron.

Crews are digging up the crossing at Forestville Road. They are going to close it permanently. The state is trying to reduce the number of ground-level crossings. The old crossing is just three-tenths of a mile from the new crossing, so the old one has to go.

The new crossing will add more time to their daily drive, but some motorists are looking at the bright side.

"It's hard to back up out of your driveway a lot because they're always flying over the railroad tracks, and I think with a lot of kids in the neighborhood, they'll be able to play a little bit safer," said motorist Patricia Poole.

The new road with its new railroad crossing will head into the developing Heritage community that will feature tennis, golf, swimming and soon, thousands of new neighbors.

The DOT is studying railroad crossings in Clayton and Rocky Mount. Their report on what to close and what to keep open should be out in a few months.
