RALEIGH, NC — An early morning accident on westbound I-40 in Raleigh has left one person dead and three others injured.

The accident occurred just east of the Harrison Avenue exit when, according to Highway Patrol officials, a driver was having mechanical problems with his or her van and pulled into the lefthand travel lane. The van was then struck from behind by an SUV.

The driver of the SUV was taken to the hospital and died there.

The driver of a Dodge Neon struck the SUV from behind, and the two people in that car were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, as was the driver of the van.
