White (6-0, 190, Virginia Tech) holds a number of Cobras career records andis the only player to have participated in all 28 of Cobras' games over thepast two seasons.
Originally a fifth round (10th overall) selection fromthe Albany Firebirds in the 2000 dispersal draft, White has been a trueIronman during his two-year career in Carolina. He was named team Ironmanin 2000 after leading the team in receiving and tackles, and owns Carolinacareer records for points (182), touchdowns (30), receptions (95), receivingyards (1,342), receiving touchdowns (27) and tackles (95).
Last season, he finished second on the team with 51 catches for 585 yards and12 touchdowns to go along with 40 tackles and a pair of interceptions ondefense. Although the Cobras would have liked to keep the services of Whitefor the 2002 season, Carolina inked AFL all-star free agent WR/LB CoryFleming (Nashville Kats, 1997-2001) and former NFL wide receiver ChrisDoering to fill the void.
In other off-season news, Chicago also claimed FB/LB Kevin Jefferson offwaivers. Jefferson (6-1, 245, Lehigh) was released by the Cobras last week.He played in four games for Carolina last season and rushed for 21 yards andtwo scores. He also added a pair of tackles and two sacks on defense.
Training camp is set to kickoff on March 24. Carolina opens the preseasonon Friday, March 29 with a visit to the San Jose SaberCats. The Cobrasconclude their preseason slate on Saturday, April 6, 7 p.m. with a home gameagainst White and the Rush at the Entertainment and Sports Arena. Carolinaopens the 2002 regular season against the expansion Dallas Desperados onSaturday, April 20, 7 p.m. at the ESA.
