Downed Power Lines Prompt Detours Near RTP

print friendly

An accident involving a tractor-trailer and a car Wednesday night is causing traffic problems around Research Triangle Park.

Crews are repairing downed power lines at the intersection of T.W. Alexander Drive and Miami Boulevard.

Officials said that a car traveling southwest on Alexander hit an 18-wheeler. The 18-wheeler swerved and hit a utility pole, knocking down power lines.

The intersection is expected to be blocked at least until noon.

Detour signs are set up to guide drivers to alternate routes:

  • Vehicles traveling S. on Miami will be detoured onto Presidential across Alexander onto Stirrup Creek and then back to S. Miami.
  • Vehicles traveling N. on Miami will be detoured onto Stirrup Creek across Alexander, onto Presidential and back to N. Miami. (Opposite of S. Miami detour)
  • Vehicles traveling NW on Alexander will be detoured onto 147 to Cornwallis and then onto S. Miami.
  • Vehicles traveling SW on Alexander will be detoured onto Stirrup Creek or Presidential depending on which direction they need to go.
