FAYETTEVILLE — A new era will soon officially begin in Fayetteville as Marshall Pitts soundly defeats interim mayor Milo McBryde.
McBryde took over the job after legendary Mayor J.L. Dawkins died.
With his win Tuesday, Pitts becomes Fayetteville's first African-American mayor.
Throughout his campaign, Pitts said it was time to change the face of politics in the city.
"This race symbolizes the city of Fayetteville. It is ready for some progress, a progressive look, a new look," he said.
Interim Mayor Milo McBryde said he will take some time off before deciding on his future in politics.
