Purcell says he has always been fascinated with the Big Apple. The stained glass was his semester art project, but then the terrorists struck with a vengeance.
"It was monumental because it was so huge. It was an architectual wonder basically so losing it and then having this to remember it is another reason why I wanted to finish," he said.
Purcell and his fellow classmates decided to take up a collection for the survivors of the terrorist attacks, but then they got a better idea. The student council collected money to pay for the stained glass.
Fuquay-Varina High will donate Chris's panels to Stuyvescent High School in Manhattan. The students hope to have the glass delivered by Christmas time.
Stuyvescent High School is close to the World Trade Center site. Many of those kids saw the towers come down and people jump from the building. Many of the students are now orphans because their parents worked there and did not survive.
