Hurricanes Hire Bobby Smith As Consultant

RALEIGH — The Carolina Hurricanes hired former Phoenix Coyotes general manager Bobby Smith as a consultant on Tuesday.
Smith, 43, will scout the Western Conference for the Hurricanes, working out of his home in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Smith served as general manager and alternate governor of the Coyotes from 1996-2001.
Smith had 357 goals and 679 assists in 15 seasons with the Minnesota North Stars and Montreal Canadiens, and was a four-time All-Star. He had the winning goal in the final game of the 1986 Stanley Cup Finals in 1986, and played in the finals with Minnesota in 1981 and 1991.
Smith had 64 goals and 96 assists in 184 playoff games.
