The decision will probably have the biggest impact on school marching bands, which tend to travel pretty frequently. Broughton High band director Jeff Richardson understands the decision, but worries the kids will miss out on the experience.
"It would hurt the kids not having the opportunity to perform where they're going to perform. That's the big thing: giving them the right and the opportunity," he says.
The policy is in effect until Dec. 1. At that point, the board will re-evaluate the situation. The board is advising clubs that have trips planned for next spring to consider getting travel insurance.
