RALEIGH, N.C. — Wake County commissioners on Monday signed a steel beam that was then lifted into place to complete the frame of the county's new justice center downtown.
Crews broke ground on the $188 million project last May, and it is expected to be completed by the summer of 2013.
The 11-story, 577,000-square-foot building on Martin Street between McDowell and Salisbury streets will replace Wake County's 40-year-old courthouse. It will include more than 40 courtrooms and is designed to meet the county's criminal justice needs for the next 30 to 50 years.
