FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — After five months away from her owners, Trixie the cat returned home on Wednesday.

Trixie went missing in December while her family was moving from Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, to Fayetteville.

The family had stopped off at a hotel off of Interstate 70 in St. Louis when the cat ran away.

“She scooted out without anybody knowing,” Tara Colpitt said. “We found out (she was missing) an hour later.”

Colpitt and her daughters thought they would never see Trixie again. But last week, someone found Trixie near a wooded, just a few blocks from the hotel where she went missing.

“They were surprised to see a cat, so they picked her up and took her to a vet to see if she belonged to somebody,” Colpitt said.

When the vet scanned Trixie and found a micro chip, a call was made to microchip company HomeAgain which activated the lost pet alert procedure.

HomeAgain put Trixie on a plane and she arrived home on Wednesday.
