Rescue mission feeds nearly 1,600 homeless for Easter

The Durham Rescue Mission fed nearly 1,600 homeless people at its annual Community Easter Dinner Friday.

DURHAM, N.C. — The Durham Rescue Mission fed nearly 1,600 homeless people at its annual Community Easter Dinner Friday.

The mission gave 1,100 Easter baskets to children.

"Faces were glowing, and smiles were bright as the less-fortunate kids of the community experienced an Easter blessing," spokeswoman Gail Mills said in a release.

Volunteers also gave away 4,000 articles of clothing and 410 bags of groceries.
