Cumberland sheriff names first female to motorcycle unit

Cumberland County Sheriff Earl "Moose" Butler has assigned Deputy Rita Tatum to the Motors/Escort Unit of the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County Sheriff Earl "Moose" Butler has assigned Deputy Rita Tatum to the Motors/Escort Unit of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Tatum is the first female to join the unit and will be escorting local residents through traffic, conducting funeral processions and patrolling communities.

 

A native of Statesville and a retired Army master sergeant, Tatum joined the Sheriff’s Office in February 2008 and has served as a road patrol deputy and a field training officer.
