Wilson opens new homeless shelter, food pantry

A Wilson nonprofit opened a new 6,000-square-foot homeless shelter, called the Hope Station, Friday.

WILSON, N.C. — A Wilson nonprofit opened a new 6,000-square-foot homeless shelter Friday.

Called the Hope Station, the nonprofit facility will serve also serve as a food pantry and distribution site for clothing and medicine.

A $500,000 grant from the State Housing Finance Agency helped pay for the project. Public donations of $167,000 were also collected in less than three months.
