Santa Claus will be taking a train trip through North Carolina Saturday, the state Department of Transportation announced.

Santa will be riding Amtrak's Piedmont (train 73) and the Carolinian (train 80) between Raleigh and Charlotte. Passengers are welcomed to join Santa for the ride.

"Riding the train with family and friends and taking advantage of some leisurely time with Santa is a great way to get into the holiday spirit," Transportation Secretary Lyndo Tippet said.

Those in Raleigh seeking Santa can board train 73 southbound for Greensboro and return via train 80 northbound. Those who want to ride the Santa Train Charlotte can board train 80 northbound for Salisbury, then return via train 73 southbound.

Reservations are required, and early reservations are recommended. Children younger than age 2 ride free, and older children and seniors receive a discount.
