Tree of Lights lit to mark highway fatalities

The Governor's Highway Safety Program plans to honor those killed on North Carolina roads in 2007 with a "Tree of Life" displayed on the lawn of the State Capitol.

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Governor's Highway Safety Program plans to honor those killed on North Carolina roads in 2007 with a "Tree of Life" displayed on the lawn of the State Capitol.

The tree will be lit at 5:30 p.m. Friday and remain on display through Jan. 5. It bears 1,705 lights, each representing a fatality on state roads during 2007.
