Big Sweep a big success in Hillsborough
Hillsborough residents cleared almost 20,000 ponds of trash from along roadways and the Eno River as part of the town's third annual Big Sweep Saturday.

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — Hillsborough residents cleared almost 20,000 ponds of trash from along roadways and the Eno River as part of the town's third annual Big Sweep Saturday.
“This year’s sweep was a monumental effort,” said Terry Hackett, water
resource officer with Orange County Erosion Control and the stormwater
program coordinator for the Town of Hillsborough.
Volunteers cleaned up trash and tires, and recycled plastic and glass from the area around Dimmocks Mill Road where a new park will open next year.
Mainline Contracting of Durham, the company set to build Gold Park, donated about $1,500 worth of manpower and equipment for the clean-up.
