RALEIGH, N.C. — More than 50 area restaurants joined with Communities in Schools of Wake County on Tuesday to raise money for at-risk students in the area.

The 10th annual Dine Out for Kids Event was planned to raise funds for tutoring, one-on-one mentoring, wellness and esteem-building programs for more than 1,000 students.

Participating restaurants, including Carolina Ale House and Bojangles, promised to donate a portion of sales on Tuesday toward the program.

"The strong support from our sponsors, participating restaurants and patrons throughout Wake County is inspiring," said Susan B. Hansell, executive director of CIS Wake. "The funds raised by Dine Out for Kids are invaluable to our community's most needy students, and give them the opportunity to achieve their best academically and personally in the classroom – and in life."
