RALEIGH, N.C. — Trooper J. L. Thorpe of the N.C. Highway Patrol was honored Tuesday with the department’s second highest award for heroism for performing CPR on a crash victim on Jan. 23, 2008.

“Trooper Thorpe went above and beyond the normal call of duty on this occasion in an attempt to possibly save others. This level of service exemplifies what it means to be a state trooper -- to serve others,” said Colonel W. Fletcher Clay, Highway Patrol commander.
