DURHAM, N.C. — The state Department of Transportation has approved construction of a bridge over Interstate 40 that will connect sections of the American Tobacco Trail, Durham officials said Wednesday.
Construction on the bridge, which will be adjacent to the Streets at Southpoint mall, is expected to begin this summer and be completed by the middle of 2013, officials said.
The 22-mile trail, which cuts through Durham, Chatham and Wake counties, is popular with joggers, bicyclists and families.
