RALEIGH, N.C. — Keith Sutton made it official Tuesday that he will run for re-election to the Wake County Board of Education. Sutton's District 4 seat is one of five up for grabs in October's election.

Sutton, a Democrat, had previously indicated his intention to run. He joined the board by appointment in 2009, when he filled the seat vacated by Rosa Gill. He has regularly voted with the four other Democrats on the board in support of the Wake County Public School System's long-standing student assignment policy of busing students to achieve socio-economic diversity across the district.

Two of his colleagues – Dr. Anne McLaurin, the wife of Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker, and Carolyn Morrison have said they will not run again. The fourth Democrat, Kevin Hill, is running for re-election.

The other open seat is held by Board Chairman Ron Margiotta, who also plans to run.
