CARY, N.C. — The Wake County Public School System has extended the second round of its student assignment plan's school selection process.

The district's online selection tool was down over the weekend until Tuesday while it was being updated to reflect the placement of students in magnet schools.

"Because we had to suspend the choice selection period, we wanted to make up that time for parents that are still making decisions," Judy Peppler, the school system's chief transformation officer, said in a statement Tuesday.

Parents have until 10 p.m. April 12 to make their selections – three days longer than the original April 9 deadline.

"We are also moving the notification date, when parents can see their results from Choice Round 2, to Thursday, April 26," Peppler said.

The district says that after the magnet schools waitlists were processed, there were some additional seats available because of children leaving for magnet programs.

Further details are available on the school system's student assignment website.
