ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Rocky Mount police arrested three fugitives sought by the New York Police Department, including a man wanted in connection with 15 armed robberies on the subway system.

Rasheem Williams, 37, Jamal Williams, and Michael Lewis were arrested at 841 Sunset Ave. after being tracked down by Rocky Mount and New York police and the U.S. Marshals Service.

The NYPD had named Rasheem Williams its "top most wanted fugitive," according to the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Web site.

Rasheem Williams displayed a knife or pretended to have a firearm and demanded victims' property, bank cards and PINs, Crime Stoppers described. One victim suffered minor injuries.

Multiple media outlets reported that all the subway robberies occurred this year.

The New York Post reports detectives said that Rasheem Williams has a 20-year-long criminal record, including a three-year prison stint for robbery in the early 1990s. He also served a separate eight-year sentence.

Jamal Williams was on New York City's list of Top 100 Wanted People. Michael Lewis was wanted for probation violations in New York.
