Nearby residents want Durham to step up monitoring of Eno River swimming hole

"I'm just worried it's becoming a victim of its own popularity," said Zachary Schreiber, who lives at the entrance to the trail off Landis Drive that leads to Sennet's Hole.

Parking is a major issue for Landis Drive residents.

"Sometimes, it will be 25 to 30 cars up and down the road," Ray Griffin said.

Schreiber said he's seen paramedics struggle to get access to the trail on at least two occasions when someone at the river needed help.

"When it gets really busy, I'd just be concerned about any EMS having access to the park," he said.

The growing concerns prompted Schreiber to ask Durham officials for help.

"The best solution would be to have a little parking lot at the end of our road with hours (Sennet's Hole is open) and a gate," he said.

He's also asked the city to hire someone to monitor swimmers at the hole on weekends.

"Have somebody out there making sure everything is fine and making sure people are not littering and what not," he said.

The City Council has sent the concerns to the city manager's office for review. Durham officials couldn't be reached for comment Friday.
