NCSU to Ban Most Indoor, Outdoor Smoking
Posted November 26, 2007
Raleigh, N.C. — North Carolina State University has tightened its smoking regulations after the 2007 General Assembly passed a bill prohibiting smoking in all state-owned buildings from Jan. 1, 2008.
From that date, NCSU will also ban smoking inside all university buildings, except residence halls which are or have designated smoking areas. Those dorms must go smoke-free by Aug. 15, 2008.
Outdoor smoking will also be banned within 25 feet of all buildings owned by NCSU. Deans and vice chancellors retain the option to ban or allow smoking within parts of that 25-foot perimeter. Any smoking area within that perimeter must still be 25 feet away from entrances and ventilation intakes.
Smoking will be allowed for medical or scientific research purposes.
