ASHEBORO, N.C. — Three cougar kittens whose mother was killed by a hunter in Oregon are expected to arrive at the North Carolina Zoo on Monday.

The two females and a male are about 2 months old.

Once the hunter realized the adult cougar had kittens, the animals were taken to the Oregon Zoo in Portland, where zookeepers helped wean the animals, officials said.

The cougars will be under a mandatory 30-day quarantine after arriving at the zoo in Asheboro. After that, visitors will be able to see them in the cougar exhibit in the zoo’s Cypress Swamp complex.
