NC trio named to Country Music Hall of Fame

Charlie Daniels, Randy Travis and Fred Foster are the 56th class of inductees to be added to the hall. All three men are from North Carolina, which marks the first time since 1985 that all inductees have been from the same state.

Charlie Daniels is being inducted into the "veterans era artist" category. His song "The Devil Went Down to Georgia," is known around the world and continues to be a staple on the radio. Daniels, 79, was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2008 and the Musicians Hall of Fame in 2009. He has battled cancer and suffered a stroke and still performs more than 100 shows a year.

Travis is this year's "modern era artist" inductee. He is the voice behind iconic tracks like "On the Other Hand" and "Forever and Ever, Amen," which are just a few of his chart-topping hits. Throughout the course of his career, Travis has won seven Grammy awards. At the 1987 CMA awards, he won album of the year, male vocalist and single of the year. The 56-year-old has sold more than 25 million albums and has appeared in more than 40 film and television roles.

In 2013, Travis suffered a stroke and spent six months in the hospital. After a long battle, he was able to walk again and is working to restore his speech and singing skills.

Foster, a producer and label owner, was chosen as the inducted for the "non-performer" category, which is awarded every third year. Foster started Monument Records and publishing house Combine Music in 1958. The 84-year-old is credited with helping to launch the careers of icons Kris Kristofferson, Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson.
