JACKSON, N.C. — Students marching in a small town Christmas parade in Jackson, North Carolina, were harassed on Saturday, according to the town's chief of police.

Police Chief John Young told WRAL News students performing in the parade reported that a man with a shotgun threatened them as they marched on Saturday.

According to Young, the man uttering the threats was not in the crowd but on the porch of a house that lined the parade route.

No suspect has been arrested, and no warrants have been issued, Young said. The investigation is ongoing.

The band director who leads the group posted on Facebook that the group was a middle school dance team and drumline. He said the man was complaining the group was too noisy.

The police chief said Jackson's mayor and other elected officials have been notified.

Jackson is a town in Northampton County, close to the North Carolina-Virginia line and east of Roanoke Rapids.
