Nash County man accused of attempted robbery against mother

Witnesses called police on Wednesday after they said Roger Wayne Edwards, 47, of Elm City, waved a gun at a woman in the parking lot of the Wachovia Bank at 2910 Sunset Ave. in Rocky Mount.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A Nash County man is accused of trying to force his mother to withdraw money out of her bank account. 

Witnesses called police on Wednesday after they said Roger Wayne Edwards, 47, of Elm City, waved a gun at a woman in the parking lot of the Wachovia Bank at 2910 Sunset Ave. in Rocky Mount.

Police said the 82-year-old woman told them that her son was using force to have her remove money from the account and give it to him.

No one was injured. 

Edwards is charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon and resisting a public officer.

He was being held under a $35,000 bond in the Nash County Jail on Thursday.
