CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The North Carolina NAACP Youth and College Division requested records related to the hiring of UNC President Margaret Spellings in a news conference Tuesday morning.

Representatives say they want transparency regarding former President Thomas Ross' resignation and Spellings' selection as his replacement. The UNC System forced Ross out of his role in January 2015.

The NAACP accuses the system of accelerating Ross' resignation and paying him to keep quiet about it. They also say that the university system recruited Spellings before Ross announced he was leaving.

The new request includes nine points asking for different information, including Spellings' relationship with the Bush family.
