Friday is now a WRAL Weather Alert Day. Parts of Hoke, Cumberland and Sampson counties are under a level 2 risk for storms Friday afternoon and evening. The biggest threat will be damaging winds and heavy rain, but an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out in our southern counties. The storms are expected to impact these areas from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The North Carolina Drought Management Advisory Council planned to meet from 10:30 a.m. to noon today.

RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina Drought Management Advisory Council will meet from 10:30 a.m. to noon today in the ground floor hearing room of the Archdale Building, 512 North Salisbury St.

The council monitors local drought conditions and advises the U.S. Drought Monitor weekly.

The council posts on its Web site, <a href="http://www.ncdrought.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">www.ncdrought.org</a>, weekly advisories that may be in effect based on current drought conditions.
