DURHAM, N.C. — The North Carolina Central University Board of Trustees voted unanimously Wednesday to ban smoking within 25 feet of most campus buildings.

Smoking inside all buildings and dorms at N.C. Central already is prohibited.

The new policy was drafted by students, and university officials pledged to spend about $10,000 to provide signage alerting people to the restrictions and to purchase urns for cigarette butts.
