Motorcyclist killed in crash near Smithfield

A motorcyclist was killed Saturday when he lost control on Interstate 95 in Smithfield, according to the state Highway Patrol.

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — A motorcyclist was killed Saturday when he lost control on Interstate 95 about one mile south of Smithfield, according to the state Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Hubert "Hester" Alford, 52, of Wendell, was driving northbound when he lost control, overcorrected and flipped over around 7 p.m. He was thrown from his motorcycle.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The wreck report cited erratic, careless and reckless driving as possible factors in the crash.
