CLAYTON, N.C. — A Clayton man died when a passenger van struck two motorcycles on N.C. Highway 42 in Johnston County Saturday, state troopers said.

Ellen Kealy, 45, of Clayton, tried to turn left from N.C. 42 onto Castleberry Drive around 12:30 p.m., but her van hit two motorcycles traveling together east on the highway, troopers said.

William Richard, 48, was killed.

Frederick Brown, 45, of Clayton, who was also on a motorcycle, suffered a broken leg and was taken to Johnston Memorial Hospital in Smithfield.
