DURHAM, N.C. — The state Highway Patrol is investigating after a fatal motorcycle crash on Wake Forest Highway in Durham County.

It happened at about 3 p.m. Thursday in front of the Durham Ridge Assisted Living Center, 3420 Holloway St. As the motorcycle was heading eastbound, the driver of a Dodge Neon pulled out in front of him, troopers said.

Speed was a factor, on the part of the motorcycle driver; and inattention on the part of the car driver, also played a role in the crash, troopers said.

The driver of the motorcycle, Patrick Shae Moore, died on the scene. The 38-year-old man was from Durham.

The woman driving the car worked at the assisted living center. She was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Her name was not available.
